Private Equity GPs, With An Eye On Fundraising, Wake Up To Bribery Risk

Not long ago, when Manny Alas was called in by a private equity firm, it was to sort out a foreign bribery problem that had already occurred. Now, the co-leader of Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act forensic services practice is frequently called in for “proactive consulting,” to check out risks, policies and procedures with a view to avoiding problems. “Today they’re looking to us and saying ‘can you benchmark where we are?’” he said in an interview at Dow Jones’ head office in New York City last week.
